Area of a Triangle

Formula: A=1/2bh

The triangle's base does not have to be the same length as the height, although it can be. To find the total area, you multiply the base and the height, then divide the product by 2 to find the total area.

Examples

Determine the amount of paint needed for a triangular roof on a house.

Imagine you're painting the roof, which is triangular. To buy the right amount of paint, you need to calculate the area of the triangle. Let's say the base of the triangular roof is 6 meters and the height from the base to the peak is 4 meters.

 You can use the formula for the area of a triangle:

Area= 1/2bh

Area=1/2 x 6 meters x 4 meters

Area= 1/2 x 24 meters

Area= 12 square meters

By calculating the area, you know you need enough paint to cover 12 square meters. This ensures you purchase the correct amount of paint, avoiding waste and ensuring complete coverage.

Suppose you own a piece of land with a triangular plot and want to know its size for construction planning or sale purposes.

Imagine the triangular plot has a base of 50 meters and a height (perpendicular from the base to the opposite vertex) of 30 meters. To find the area, you use the formula for the area of a triangle:

Area=1/2bh

Area= 1/2 x 50 meters × 30 meters

Area= 1/2× 1500 square meters

Area = 750 square meters

By calculating the area, you determine that the triangular plot of land is 750 square meters. This information is vital for construction projects, determining property taxes, or preparing the land for agricultural use.
